The City and Some History
The setting is grand old New York City itself, the great Big Apple. This includes a number of facilities, warehouses, buildings and plenty of urban jungle landscape to toy around with. New York City is home to about 8,143,197 residents. Of these residents many live alternate lives beyond the knowledge of humans, being mutants. So come, get a bite of The Big Apple, if you dare...
Setting: New York City
Recently New York has hit a huge setback in mutant relations. The government seems at a standstill between domination and toleration causing multiple rumors to spring up about facilities build to house and use mutants. During this time, Xavier's school for the gifted had been hit hard by human and mutant protests which resulted in inner fighting and an overall disbursement of those who once attended the school. While there are rumors going about that Xavier may be gathering his x-men once more, little has been said or heard of such activities.
An OOC Note: This room was founded with another in mind. #Xaviers_School was the inspiration and here was made in its memory, with the setting being what occurred after the original idea of the school fell, meeting an IC tragic end when it died 2 years ago which leads way for this room to have a future.

A Little History...
Xavier's School was once home to hundreds of mutants as faculty and student alike. It was a place of growth and change, a place where mutants were accepted by one another and could learn control as well as not be afraid to show their true appearances and ultimately, learn to tolerate the intolerance of others.
The school was also home to the X-Men, Xavier's team of mutants he taught, trained, and who wished to join him for his quest of acceptance by helping those who needed it, no matter their view on mutantkind. It was the ideal of acceptance, tolerance, and community that Xavier instilled in others. He was always searching for a peaceful means to co-exist with humans.
In 2007, there came a large bout when the government sought to regulate and register mutants through paperwork. The idea was that those who achieve their black belts in martial arts or are trained and carry weapons, mutants would be registered with their powers listed along with photo ID and a sample of DNA on file. Granted, not even black belts had their DNA on file, or a photo taken. There were pros and cons to this. The government played it off that this would be a way to stop accusation and dwindle down the hate against mutants by having their abilities registered, so as example someone who had teleporting powers would not be accused of robbing a bank that another mutant had ripped the vault door from.
There was a great deal of debate but ultimately the proposal won. Many thought this was due to tampering with the votes. They were right. By the time it was found out however, it was too late. Mutants were being registered and many fought it. There was an incident one day when one mutant rights activist, Mr. Lordshal was killed. Another mutant took up his identity and killed three well-known mutant haters and slaughtered their families. That night, the FBI and SWAT team raided Mr. Lordshal's home and killed him in his sleep. The identity thief was found out when as Mr. Lordshal, he struck again by mass slaughtered the children of a Christian School that was thought to be anti-mutant. The thief was never found, but shortly after, it was revealed that the proposal had passed council due to voter's fraud and thus it was vetoed and hasn't been brought up.
These incidents, known as "The Lordshal Dispute", led to a series of mutant hate crimes, against mutants and humans alike.
The worst came when Xavier's school found itself raided. A force that was by no means government had broken into its confines through security staff that had worked for years to be able to get so close. The entire building was nearly destroyed in the battle that occurred, the school being sacrificed in order for the faculty to best save its students. Something of great importance was taken from the institute besides a few students, enough that nearly all of the faculty left including Xavier to go on a retrieval and rescue mission. Not much is known about the disaster, but what is known is many of the team split up after that account and only a few members of faculty were left behind to deal with the small group of students and trainees who remained.
Vincent Giovanni took over the institute as headmaster and dipped into his own funds for rebuilding until he was granted access to Xavier's through inheritance. Xavier himself has not been seen nor heard from for nearly 2yrs, along with much of the prior staff. It is commonly thought that the worst has happened.. but still, Vincent and those left behind work to continue to instill Xavier's ideals and strive for a better future.
