Player nick: ^REDX^Ultimate
Name: Lucas Velian
Status: Student
DoB/Age: June 23rd, 1989
Height: 6'2”
Weight: 175lbs
Powers:
* Cryokinetics – Lucas can reduce the temperature about him to create ice out of the moisture in the air, shaping it how he wishes, though how difficult it is depends on how much moisture is in the air.
For such things as balls of ice, it takes little concentration. He could freeze another in ice if he wanted, but it would take constant physical contact and a great deal of concentration, and is quickly draining, as well as leaving him a bit vulnerable.
Currently, while extreme cold does not seem to affect him, he can only manipulate external temperatures, and can not yet reduce his internal body temperature with his will, though whether or not he'll be able to do that is unknown.
* Telepathy – This is limited only between himself and his brother, Chance. It's a twin thing. They can speak to one another in this manner and often share dreams. They can almost always tell how the other is feeling, even if not verbally told. At times they even get flashes of thoughts and memories from the mind of the other. The maximum their telepathy can reach is one mile and the farther apart within that mile they are, the more concentration it takes to continue talking to one another.
Skills & Hobbies:
* Art and Music -- Lucas has always been deeply rooted within music, first taking piano lessons as a child, and moving on to other classical instruments, such as the violin. He has yet to move on to learn things such as the guitar, he'll work his way there one thing at a time. As for art, it's much more a side hobby than a passion like music. Though, Luck has always been a bit of a sketch artist, occasionally working on online comics.
* Exercise -- To spend time with his brother, even to help Chance vent occasionally, Luck exercises. Most of his is spent in his own quarters or simple jogging, he's not one to frequent gyms. He's not too obsessive on the state of his body, at least not to the extent as his brother, and thusly he's never quite in the shape as Chance due to it.
* Sleight of Hand -- Something he's always worked on, in the case it would be necessary, even if it was just to bail his brother out of a situation. It's nowhere near as trained as a “professional” “Shell Game” owner, however.
* Fencing -- Besides exercise, anything physical was never high on his agenda, such as sports. To fix this, Lucas's adopted parents forced him to try many different things until he found something he actually enjoyed. While out of practice now, at one point, he excelled at this, planning to once more pick it up when he can.
* Cooking -- Another thing he learned to do early, and he can do it well, given the right ingredients, but many a time he opts just to take the easy route and go for frozen or simple meals, unless he's in a good mood.
Background/History:
Despite being unable to conceive a child for almost three years, Laura and Jonathan Velian, they finally did so, twins no less; and on the night of their sons' arrival, they felt truly blessed! They went along with the traditional superstition of good an evil. While the other seemed a little hellion, Lucas seemed almost heaven sent.
Although the elder of the two by two minutes, he was the crybaby of the pair for the first couple years, growing out of it in time. Although quite often put in danger by the almost-insane risks Chance took, half the time it was he that took the blame for the risks, knowing that it wasn't the intention of his brother to get them both hurt, and also to spare him from any further punishment. The two were inseparable.
It was at the age of five that many things changed. The family was enjoying themselves in the park, a lovely picnic together planned by Laura and Jonathan to relax from their life and spend more time with the two sons, when out of nowhere an mutant hate group drove by, pursuing a green-scaled man whom was fleeing for his life. Repeatedly shot, his wounds healed miraculously fast. Unfortunately, Laura and Jonathan were not so lucky. Neither lived through the night, the two Velian brothers placed into the adoption system, now being orphans. This is where the duo were separated within only a few days of their parents' deaths, Lucas being quickly adopted while Chance was left behind, due to his temperament.
The two adopting him, Angela and William Mason, saw a side of him never shown before, resentful those first couple weeks due to separating him from his brother, moving all the way to southern California.. Eventually though, Luck eased back into his normal attitude, eerily calm and collected, instead of hyper like many children.
Though a void in his life, the feeling was bearable through the dreams of his brother, keeping him going, even if he did have it rather easy. Academically he excelled, put into the advanced classes for his age. Though the attitude between himself and those of his own age different, he still didn't seem to have much of a problem finding friends, even amongst the so-called “bullies,” calming them down fairly well, but that was something he had practice with. For the first few years with his new family, Luck was busy, immersed between fencing, music lessons, chores, and exercise, with little time to spare, except in his dreams.
At the age of thirteen, the three took a fishing trip, like they occasionally did, just to spend time during the summer together, and enjoy the time spent in the company of the other two. But..Luck felt strange, different, teased of sea sickness as he gripped the side of the boat and hung himself slightly over the edge.. And he felt as if somewhere out there, wherever his brother was, that something bad was happening.. In that instant, Luck fell out of the boat into the water. Even though quickly saved from drowning, his body was growing so cold fast that they wrapped him up and headed back, making sure both his doctor and others were there to help when he got there..
Taken care of by his doctor, a close friend of William, he managed through the night, despite his body lowering beyond the point of what hypothermia would do, beyond what someone could live through.. Luckily for them, they didn't have to worry about him being hurt by those who hated mutants, kept secret by the doctor, besides to Angela and William.
For the next couple days, he was told to stay home instead of going to school to rest, just in case. Luck decided to make something to eat, to help the odd feeling subside a little, also feeling a little sick in the stomach. Not in the mood to cook, it would be something frozen, simple to make!..But sticking his hand in the freezer for that lunch didn't exactly turn out like he expected. Next thing he knew, the whole refrigerator was frozen, and spreading down across the floor, up the walls, before it spanned the entire kitchen, including the arm inside the freezer halfway up his forearm, and up to his ankles. The ice was somewhat cold to the touch, but not numbing or unbearable as it had always felt to such bare skin..
While he begun to wonder and test what had happened, needless to say he had quite the time trying to explain the half-flooded, half-ice kitchen to William and Angela when they got home..
It wasn't the only change for Lucas, either. That void that he always felt without Chance expanded, leaving him just calling out for the other in his mind, once more the thought of being separated was far under his skin, despite how calm he normally was, and he told his parents.
After a lengthy discussion, they decided that anything that could inevitably drive someone like him a bit insane was something that should be avoided. Lucas was sent back to NYC to live with the extended family that resided there. It was then, only a few weeks after the kitchen incident that he felt he had found Chance, slipping outside of his new home in the middle of the night...a blacksmith's shop? Unsure, Lucas knocked on that door, only to find him face-to-face with himself..but it wasn't himself, either! He'd finally found him, and the two were again inseparable.
Though the extended family wasn't quite as...content with housing a mutant as Angela and William had been, they did so for them for a while, the past four years. But recently, they received a letter in the mail for Xavier's School for the Gifted..Their chance to ship him off, but he could still stay in the general area!... They found it a lucky break for themselves, even if it wasn't too bad for Lucas either.
Personality: – Calm and collected, Lucas is the cautious of the two. The nickname Luck probably comes from the fact he's lucky to still be alive from the
risks Chance has taken with him in tow in the past and present. Lucas is a “think before you act,” “look before you leap” kind of guy, and it's usually up to him to calm his brother down in situations. Were sides needed to be taken, for the time being, Luck simply wouldn't take one, keeping himself and his brother neutral for the time, as his own view of human-mutant relations conflict with themselves, between past experience and sense of morals.
Over the past couple of years, Luck's utmost calm and cool has mellowed some, being known to very infrequently show a fiery side not unlike his brother, though few and far between the situations that break his true-to-nature frosty demeanor.
