A Dangerous Encounter: THEM
Gregory hadn't had things too easy as of late. Between Caly and Jade, thoughts of his family, his work... he had a lot on his mind. Perhaps that's why he didn't see it coming....
He had fled in a rush, a terrible hurry with his emotions overwhelming him and the stress piling. Worse, he had fled in costume. Looking like a red tinted Zorro-esque bandit, he was prime target for... Them.
They were a group of Them, picking such a name to bewilder and annoy. It matched perfectly with Their costumes of tricksters, jokers and clowns. They dressed up and caused havoc and chaos, reveling in Their mischief. Seeing Gregory, as distraught as he was, it was so easy for the entire group to gang up on him. While Gregory had powers of friction control, he wasn't immune to the laughing gas thrown at him, ultra neon pink fumes engulfing him and sending him into literally a laugh-attack.
What was so funny?
Apparently the fact that he was being doused with paintballs, nasty acid-laced things that ate at his clothing and were enough to cause second degree burns to the flesh they touched. Wore, as Gregory's powers fluctuated with him trying to use them and then being overly distracted, the goop rolled down over his body and caused the marks and damage to spread. The member who called himself Mindbender, as heard from the team's shouts, kept his friends afloat and off the ground so they weren't affected by any attempts to make them slip up, once they saw what Gregory was capable of. They toyed with him, then a heavy dose of a purple cloud had knocked him out.
When all was said and done, Gregory woke up strung up to a stature in central park. That statue was in fact the Simon BolĂvar Monument, and Gregory had been painted brown, clothing and all, and smeared with.. well.. he had to have at some point been shoved into an outhouse and shaken up a bit. Smelly and hogtied under the horse, there was a white poster sign with cut-out letters reading "Big Turd" that indicated what Gregory was on display. It had been signed with numerous multi-colored handprints and a smiley face in blood.
This wasn't the first attack against costumed mutants and humans, villain and hero alike... There was no discrimination, only humiliation from Them.

The Return[/b]
Vincent had been lighthearted the past few days right up until the celebration. While many had plans for Devil's Night and Halloween, he hosted a school-wide party on the 28th. Drinks and food were served. Games were played. It was a fun night. The fun grew all the more with the rolling mists and surrounding fog over taking the gym, the loud booming sounds of the x-jet landing as the basketball court opened its hidden hanger.
Xavier had returned.
With him, so did a few of the x-men. The students were able to meet him and he learned a great deal about those Vincent had taken in while the team was away. The celebration was interrupted though, a student dashing in to put on the news. The government was once more doing a public proposal on mutant registration.
Mutants were to be fingerprinted, DNA taken, powers tested and noted with potential growth and more. All for public safety, of course.
This is what brought Xavier back. He announced in the coming weeks the students would have choices to make, to decide if they wished to remain at the school and learn.. or not. No more would academics be taught, however the school wound provide other avenues of learning while other more important lessons were to begin. Lessons of survival and tolerance.
